Patterns of Meaning’s exhibit at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden may seem like an unlikely collaboration, but the Botanic Garden was a relevant space for this collection of art and artifacts.
The Botanic Gardens venue sits on initially logged land, then farmed, then strip-mined. While this use of this land at the time was necessary for the industrial age, we can look back and review the impact of this activity - both good and bad. With hindsight, we can look back and see the errors made and how to rectify them. The Botanic Gardens took strip-mined and destroyed land and turned it into a beautiful regenerated area that people can enjoy, showing us that there are ways back.
